Discrete Time Hybrid Semi-Markov Models in Manpower Planning

چکیده

Discrete time Markov models are used in a wide variety of social sciences. However, these possess the memoryless property, which makes them less suitable for certain applications. Semi-Markov allow more flexible sojourn distributions, can accommodate duration stay effects. An overview differences and possible obstacles regarding use semi-Markov manpower planning was first given by Valliant Milkovich (1977). We further elaborate on their insights introduce hybrid open systems with transition-dependent distributions. Hybrid aim to reduce model complexity terms number parameters be estimated only taking into account effects those transitions it is useful. Prediction equations stock vector derived discussed. Furthermore, illustrated discussed based real world personnel dataset. The compared diverse selection criteria.

Discrete Time Homogeneous and non-Homogeneous semi-Markov Reliability Models.∗

In this paper, we extend to our knowledge, for the first case, some reliability results obtained using homogeneous semi-Markov processes to the case of non-homogenous semi-Markov modelisation. Moreover, we apply some of our preceding results to give the numerical solutions and so the possibility to treat real life problems for which non-homogeneity in time is important.

Longitudinal Manpower Planning Models

Several manpower planning models are presented that exploit the longitudinal stability of manpower cohorts. The manpower planning process is described along with the problem of identifying and obtaining various types of longitudinal data. An infinite horizon linear program for calculating minimum cost manpower input plans is found to have a straightforward solution in a great many cases and to ...

Hidden hybrid Markov/semi-Markov chains

Models that combine Markovian states with implicit geometric state occupancy distributions and semi-Markovian states with explicit state occupancy distributions, are investigated. This type of model retains the flexibility of hidden semi-Markov chains for the modeling of short or medium size homogeneous zones along sequences but also enables the modeling of long zones with Markovian states. The...

Planning and Learning in Hybrid Discrete-Continuous Models

Many real-world problems require richer representations than are typically studied in planning and learning. For example, state estimation in complex systems such as vehicles or spacecraft often requires a representation that captures the rich continuous behaviour of these kinds of systems. Similarly, planning for such systems may require a representation of continuous resource usage, particula...

Truncation of Passage Time Calculations in Semi-Markov Models

Calculation of passage time distributions in large semi-Markov models can be accomplished by means of a previously-presented iterative algorithm, the core of which is repeated sparse matrix–vector multiplication. The algorithm’s performance is therefore highly dependent on the number of multiplications of matrix and vector elements that must be performed during each iteration. At the same time,...
